Old World Charm Pairs with Today’s Comforts

The home is a Queen Anne Victorian with its original oak pocket doors, handcrafted oak staircase, and tiled fireplaces. Today’s comforts and conveniences come alongside antiques and family heirlooms that decorate this casually elegant inn, ensuring your experience is a time of rest and relaxation.

Each of the five rooms or suites offers attached private baths. Enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep in a queen- or king-size bed framed in cherry, oak, or antique brass.  Relax in the jetted tub included in the Ansel Adams room, or enjoy the large, custom-tiled walk-in shower in the recently remodeled Monet Room. No one goes away hungry! A hearty two-course breakfast made from locally grown or sourced ingredients is served each morning at multiple times – you choose which works best for you!  Return from the day’s adventure and enjoy freshly baked cookies or other sweets each afternoon or evening. Coffee and tea are available 24/7 as well.

Dan and Jen Hinderer, Innkeepers

A Little Bit Of History

Who knew a couple of college internships at bed and breakfasts twenty-something years ago would be a catalyst for a career change when we became disenchanted with corporate life? Fueled by our faith, on a mission to offer delicious breakfasts using locally sourced ingredients, and believing the best community happens around a meal at the table, we jumped into innkeeper life and haven’t looked back! After being away for 15 years pursuing careers in Landscape Design/Build (Dan) and Marketing/Business (Jen), we’re back in the Mitten State with our young sons by our sides at The Lamplighter Bed & Breakfast, where we’re happiest catching-up with guests, testing new brunch recipes and experiencing all that life along the West Coast of Michigan has to offer. Whether you’re down the street, or a few hours away, across the country or the other side of the globe – we hope you’ll be inspired to come visit this beautiful town filled with lighthouses, a stunning state park, and 28 miles of pristine shoreline. And while you’re visiting, we’d be honored to welcome you to The Lamplighter, where casual elegance and old world charm await you! Wishing You Safe & Beautiful Travels! Dan & Jen

Ludington is no stranger to the craft brew scene and is home to several breweries and craft beer festivals. Great locals include Jamesport Brewing Company, Ludington Bay Brewing Company, and Starving Artist Beer. Nearby are Big Hart Brewing Co. in Hart, Fetch Brewing Co. in Whitehall, and North Channel Brewery in Manistee.

Adventure

Ludington offers 28 miles of white, sandy shoreline including the award winning public beach at Stearns Park – recently named one of the top 51 Great American Beaches and the #1 beach in Michigan!  One of Michigan’s greatest state parks – Ludington State Park – with roughly 5,300 acres of dunes, hardwood forests, and marshlands, is a quick 15-minute drive from our doorstep. Ludington’s beautiful outdoor spaces provide a perfect place for your next adventure!

Get out and bike! Ludington is a bike-friendly city with plenty of paths and trails through the state park, around town and local parks, and the Hart-Montague Bike Trail. Two local stores offer bike rentals.

Waterways

Boaters and fishermen know that the west coast of Michigan is a paradise for anyone who loves the water, and the Ludington area does not disappoint!  Whether you’re bringing your own boat or are looking to charter one, or wish to rent a canoe or kayak, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to do so right here in the area.

Historic Charm

Are you curious what it was like to live in a small waterfront town in the late 1800s and early 1900s?  Explore all 13 acres of Historic White Pine Village’s 30 museums, which provide a snapshot of Mason County’s early history.

Located less than five minutes from the Lamplighter Bed & Breakfast, the former US Coast Guard Station – a landmark on the National Register of Historic Places – is now home to Ludington’s Port of Maritime Museum.

Developed in 2013, Mason County is home to the Lumber Heritage Trail.  Each of the 14 destinations along the trail help tell the story of  life in the late 1800s when the county’s lumber economy was in full swing.

Autumn

Lake Michigan’s coastline is truly beautiful when the trees and forests come to life with color!  Hit the road for the traditional M-22 color tour, or stick around the Ludington area and explore local orchards and back roads that come to life with color.  Follow PM Highway South of Ludington to any of the country roads – Chauvez, Hawley, or Kistler.  Go north along US-10 or take the country roads (Sugar Grove, Reek, Fountain and Custer) that bypass three small lakes and enjoy amazing fall scenery.  While you’re touring the area, be sure to visit Ludington’s local orchards for fresh apples and fall produce!  Click here for details of our favorite ways to enjoy Fall in Ludington.

Winter Fun

Ludington is even more beautiful covered in frosty blankets of snow!  Come enjoy a cozy weekend at the Lamplighter Bed & Breakfast and venture out to the state park for cross-country skiing or a guided snowshoe walk. You’ll also find places to snowmobile and ski in the Ludington, Manistee or Pentwater areas.  For more ideas on how to spend a winter getaway in Ludington, click here!
