Interlochen is just 20 minutes southwest of Traverse City, in Northwest Michigan. The town is perhaps best known for the Interlochen Center for the Arts, which began as a summer camp for young musicians and is now a year-round school for talented youth from around the world. Stay in Interlochen’s bed and breakfasts when in town to visit students or take in a performance; Interlochen Center for the Arts hosts shows by well-established musicians in addition to students.
Certainly, Interlochen is a culturally vibrant town; stay in a bed and breakfast in order to take advantage of all it has to offer. Linger in antique shops, art galleries, and restaurants. Visit the dozens of nearby Michigan wineries that offer tours of their facilities and wine tasting. Drive or cycle the Northwest Michigan Wine
Trail in the fall when the woods are ablaze, or in the summer when many wineries sponsor outdoor concerts.
This being Northwest Michigan, there are unlimited opportunities for outdoor recreation near Interlochen’s bed and breakfasts. Interlochen State Park, just south of town, is nestled between Green Lake and Duck Lake, both of which are popular destinations for fishing and swimming. The oldest state park in the state, Interlochen was created in 1917 to preserve one of the last remaining virgin pine stands in the state.
Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes National Lakeshore is less than an hour away from our bed and breakfasts; it is well worth the drive to admire the wonderfully colorful and varied sand dunes that stretch for miles along the coast of Lake Michigan. Nearby Grand Traverse Bay is a great spot for scenic cruises, charter fishing, and pleasure boating.
