About Goldberry Woods
A mere 12-minute stroll to a sugar-sand Lake Michigan beach, Goldberry Woods offers a getaway along the banks of a meandering river that you can navigate by kayak, canoe or paddleboard.
Not only that but youâve arrived at a state-of-the-art organic farm in the heart of Southwest Michigan wine country. This modern farm resort has 30 acres of pristine woods crisscrossed with hiking and cross-country ski trails.
The Goldberry Woods innkeepers bring the outside inside with eight sunlit guestrooms featuring artisan-built beds made from natural tree limbs and trunks. These unique, locally crafted sculptures are surrounded by the comforts of jetted tubs, luxurious linens, gas fireplaces, free WiFi, and central air conditioning throughout the warm summer months. The inn’s guest rooms are pet-free and for guests 12 and over.
If you are traveling as a family or with friends and family, consider one of the comfortable cottages on the propertyâCreekside, River’s Edge, or Deerpath. These cottages feature more room and include full kitchens, laundry, screen porches, fire pits, gas grills, luxurious linens, and more. The cottages are pet-friendly. You can check them out here.
Recent additions include two vintage campers, affectionately named Flora and Fauna. Campers provide private accommodations for couples under the trees. Each camper features a bathroom with a small tub/shower, kitchen, luxury bedding, deck and outdoor seating, fire pit, and gas grill. Campers are pet-friendly.
Here, âfreshâ applies to the food we serve and the air we breathe.
Breakfasts are part of the package for guests staying at the inn and can be arranged for guests staying in the cottages and glampers with advanced notice and availability. They are sourced from our micro-farm, including honey from our own apiary, freshly laid eggs, small fruits, and a wide variety of home-grown vegetables, such as asparagus, heirloom tomatoes, beans, and lettuces.
Other amenities include flower gardens, a relaxing terrace, a playground, and an outdoor pool. Nonmotorized watercraft and bicycles are available and free to use. Itâs the perfect place for gatherings of all kinds, yet conducive to romantic getaways or spiritual introspection.
The barn on the property is perfect for small weddings, family celebrations, and retreats. Â During your stay, you may even be able to join in on a yoga session.
We are college sweethearts who both became engineers. We honeymooned at a B&B in Kauai, which was a working flower farm. After that experience, we continued to stay at unique inns whenever we got the chance. We also vowed that someday we would become innkeepers ourselves.
Julie spent eight years working in processed food plants (imagine a million gallons of corn syrup per day!). Soon after the birth of our first child, Julie decided to stay home and spent ten years raising our three fabulous kids. With Ericâs support, she began to build a home around the idea that homemade was best made. Inherited and found items became integrated into the familyâs dĂŠcor. A family garden supplied the basis of our from-scratch meals. She decided that she no longer wanted to return to a career in processed foods but that she was ready to share her hospitality, love of food, and passion for the earth with guests.
We lived in the busy Chicago suburbs but began spending every possible moment vacationing in Michiganâs Harbor Country. On a week-long family vacation in 2011, we stumbled across the old Riverâs Edge B&B in Union Pier, MI. The property was close to the beach with beautiful woods and enough pasture to create a biodiverse organic farm. Though we thought that there may be too many obstacles, every detail fell into place in a serendipitous fashion and Goldberry Woods opened in May 2012.
So here we are, and we are all-in. We are so in love with Harbor Country, and we canât wait to welcome you to Goldberry Woods.
