To access the lovely red brick Little Sable Lighthouse, one must scramble over dunes and walk a stretch of beach from Golden Township Park. All three Michigan lighthouses are open for visitation. Ludington State Park takes up the land between Lake Michigan and Hamlin Lake, making it feel like an island. It is also a good place to explore by canoe or kayak.

The Pere Marquette National Scenic River flows 66 miles through the Huron-Manistee National Forest. It is considered one of the finest trout streams in the midwest, so anglers should not leave home without fishing gear. Float down the river in a canoe, paddle up it in a kayak – it is truly lovely.
