Be embraced by nature and the allure of Hemingway vibes in Northern Michigan. Within 15 minutes of three charming towns for local flair and Horton Bay, this peaceful log home retreat is the perfect escape for the perfect R&R.
Welcome to the Horton Creek Inn Bed & Breakfast, a purpose-built Town and Country cedar log home nestled with beautiful gardens amongst 60 acres of pines. Its secluded location is perfect for sleeping and relaxing, and you’ll have easy access to all the experiences found in the quaint nearby towns of  Charlevoix, Petoskey, and Boyne City. This exquisite area has many Hemingway tales, as the author lived and experienced this area, using it as inspiration for his work.
The inn offers seven uniquely themed guest rooms, each a haven of comfort and luxury. Decked out with everything you’ll need, from cozy robes to comfy hand-made queen beds, the rooms are designed with your comfort in mind. The Garden Room is the innkeeper’s favorite, and they brought the beauty of the gardens surrounding the inn inside this sun-filled room. Have your morning coffee at the bistro table in the bay window, or step out the glass doors onto the deck overlooking the gardens. Tucked in a corner of the room is a gas fireplace for those chilly nights. The spacious private bath has a Jacuzzi tub and separate shower.
Guests enjoy “scenic breakfasts” as breakfast is served in a four-season sunroom that overlooks the beautiful pond, gardens, and pool beyond. One recent review- “The food is delightful, and the view is even better. Youâll find it challenging to resist the allure of both.” Some guest favorites include Berry Stuffed French Toast and the Horton Creek Version of Eggs Benedict, which is a grilled croissant and egg with turkey, asparagus, and hollandaise sauce.
Wander through lush gardens, gaze at serene ponds, and meander along nature trails. Relax by the in-ground heated poolâa perfect way to unwind with a refreshing dip in the water.
After your evening meal in one of the nearby towns, indulge in the evening dessert, baked fresh each day, by the outdoor fire pit or the indoor sunroom room. The delightful food and warm ambiance make for a perfect end to your day.
Whether youâre drawn to the rustic charm of the North Woods, the delicious breakfasts and desserts, or the warm hospitality, this inn is a treasure not to be missed.
Relaxation while enjoying all the popular UpNorth experiences is guaranteed at the Horton Creek Inn Bed and Breakfast!
Charlevoix, in Northwest Michigan, is beautifully situated on the coast of Lake Michigan at the north end of Grand Traverse Bay. It is nestled between Lake Michigan, Round Lake, and Lake Charlevoix, connected to Lake Michigan via the Pine River Channel. The loveliness of the setting is unmatched, making Charlevoix’s bed and breakfasts a destination not to be missed.
The picturesque downtown is full of art galleries, boutique shops, and fabulous eateries. The community is vibrant and engaged, as evidenced by numerous festivals and art fairs throughout the year. There is even a quirky side, noticeable in the unique stone “Mushroom” houses.
Book a room in any of our beds and breakfasts during favorite festivals. Try the Taste of Charlevoix when local Michigan wineries and breweries pour their finest batches, and local eateries showcase their specialties. Live music accompanies the event. Attend several Art Fairs and Festivals. There is an Apple Festival each fall, annual snowshoe, nordic ski, snowmobile races, and car shows each summer. The highlight each year is The Venetian Festival – a Charlevoix tradition for over 75 years; it takes place for a week each July and features fireworks, sporting events, music and fun for the whole family.
Ride the Beaver Island Ferry from Charlevoix to Beaver Island, the most remote inhabited island in the Great Lakes. Slow down and get in touch with nature here. From Beaver Island, enjoy scenic plane rides or cruises to remote Michigan Lighthouses, such as the historic Beaver Head Light Station and Whiskey Point Light, on the north end of Beaver.
Charlevoix, Michigan, known as âCharlevoix the Beautiful,â offers a captivating blend of natural wonders and charming attractions. Explore the whimsical Earl Young mushroom houses and unique architectural gems crafted from boulders collected along the shorelines. Step into history at Castle Farms, a French Normandy-style complex built as a model dairy farm in 1918. Enjoy world-class dining and shopping in this amazing town between Lake Michigan and Lake Charlevoix.
The small town of Horton Creek is located in Charlevoix and not to be missed is the charming  Horton Creek General Store, just a few minutes from the inn. Learn about its storied past- The store is mentioned in two of Ernest Hemingway‘s short stories, “Up in Michigan” and “The Last Good Country.” Hemingway spent a great amount of his youth on nearby Walloon Lake but came to prefer Horton Bay. He returned after World War I and married Hadley Richardson in the church next door (now gone).
You can enjoy several other UpNorth Michigan towns: Boyne City, Petoskey, and Bellaire. Boyne Cityâs proximity to Lake Charlevoix offers stunning water views, serene sunsets, and a relaxed lakeside lifestyle. Whether youâre strolling along the shore or enjoying water activities, the lake is central to the townâs character. Travel to Petoskey, hunt for some Petoskey stones, and visit the quaint town of Bellaire, which boasts great dining and amazing craft beer at Shorts Brewing Company.
Just 11 miles away, visit the South Pier Lighthouse in Charlevoix. Walk the pier down the channel to where Round Lake and Lake Michigan meet.
