Hip meets historic here, where you awake to a three-course breakfast, scratch-made and locally sourced. Rest well in luxurious suites with top-of-the-line bedding and rain showers. Walk to the historic district of Saugatuck and enjoy the charm of the Art Coast.
Choose one of Judson Heath Colonial Inn’s eight romantic, charming guest rooms in the heart of Saugatuck’s downtown Historic District. As you’ll quickly discover, we love what we do.
Our mantra — hip meets historic — influences every decision we made in the restoration of this old house and every element of our hospitality.
Guests experience touches of the home’s rich history in decorative and trim details, but when it comes to guests’ comfort, we’re all about that which is up-to-date. All of our rooms feature luxury linens and bedding, flat-screen TVs with Roku, bedside USB ports, and, of course, WiFi.
Five of our rooms have king beds; three rooms have queen beds. All rooms offer beautifully tiled rain showers. Three rooms also have two-person jetted tubs.
The Richland is conveniently located on the first floor. Second floor rooms Percheron, Oxbow, Singapore, and Ge-Ya-Bway have floor-to-ceiling windows. On the third floor, the combination of vaulted ceilings and the slopes of the roof above add architectural interest to the Elton, Jagger, and Bowie rooms.
Even our approach to breakfast blends hip and historic. The ingredients are as fresh and locally sourced as possible, and our menus are au courant. But we cook on a circa 1920s stove. We serve a three-course gourmet breakfast. Baked goods are scratch-made. Our coffee is made from fresh-roasted, fresh-ground beans.
Since opening Judson Heath Colonial Inn in 2017, the inn has amassed dozens of five-stars reviews. In one example from April 2019, an Indianapolis couple really seemed to get what we’re all about: “The owners of this newly-renovated inn put the same level of care into making your stay warm and welcoming as they did into the restoration of their beautiful B&B. Food? Amazing. Hosts? Inviting. Accommodations? Impeccable. My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights on our 5th wedding anniversary and we loved every minute. The inn is an easy couple blocks from the quaint town center. Jenn and Steve willingly provided awesome recommendations and never let us down. We couldn’t provide a higher recommendation.”
Saugatuck, Michigan is never lacking in activity. Her sister cities of, Fennville, Glenn, and Holland add even more fun and flavor to your vacation. In the late 1800s, many of the towns suffered enormous damage caused by fires. Saugatuck and Douglas were spared this tragedy. They were also spared the urban sprawl that occurred with most smaller towns along the path of the railroad. For this reason, these towns still display more historic architecture in their well-preserved buildings. Charming inns offer peaceful accommodations, while enchanting shops and other sites make for a dream-like retreat, in this area free of the suburban mall appearance. Don’t forget the attractive restaurants serving incredibly delicious dinners! The beaches here have been named in the top five beaches in America, and the cool, quiet parks are beckoning anyone who lives or visits here to relax awhile. Another great place to relax is a bed and breakfast inn, where you will find accommodations with personal attention. One fun Saugatuck attraction is the Star of Saugatuck steam wheeler, which tours Lake Michigan. The river here is an awesome sight, with 900 yachts and sailboats making their home here. The dunes and fishing and golfing offer even more variety at this great vacation destination.
Cupid has nothing on the romantic setting you’ll find at Judson Heath Colonial. Leave your children with the in-laws and come and rekindle your romantic side. Enjoy a soak in their romantic jacuzzi or be pampered in their rain forest showers.
Reconnect with that special someone as your stand with your feet in the sand while you experience a spectacular sunset over Lake Michigan, or enjoy a delightful dinner at one of the many wonderful restaurants in the area.

Lounge on our grand terrace overlooking lively Butler Street. Unwind on our spacious deck to cool jazz and reggae shaded by 100yr old maple and walnut trees, or get a bottle of wine and wander the path through our Japanese garden. Partake of our warm hospitality, love of food and history.
Hop on a bike and pedal down to the local beach, or take the trail, 12 miles to nearby Holland.
At the end of a day, stroll down to the sugar-sand beach on Lake Michigan and envelop yourself in an amazing natural environment, complimented by vibrant hues of color in the sky as the sun slips down past the horizon, creating a magnificent sunset. What a way to end your day!
The Saugatuck/Douglas area has built a reputation as the Art Coast of Michigan. Stroll in and out of the many galleries and shops located in these two great towns surrounding Sherwood Forest B&B. An award-winning performance center, the Saugatuck Center for the Arts, is a great spot to catch a concert or a theater performance. Go a few minutes early and walk through the art gallery and amazing sculpture gardens before the show.
Nearby is the long standing Oxbow School of Art located on the waterfront, where many aspiring artists have come over decades to hone their craft while being guided by skilled teachers.
If music is your scene, every Wednesday night throughout the summer months, a free concert is given by local musicians in Wicks Park, nestled right on the water. Spread out your blanket and experience great music in an outdoor setting. So much to experience while you stay in our area.
Hold on to your hat, because the adventure is just about to start. Our area offers a variety of activities to pique many different interests.
West Michigan’s only Arnold Palmer Signature Design Championship Golf Course, 18-holes, par 72 course features immense and visually stunning, natural vistas with astonishing blue skies. With a full driving range, two putting greens, a short game practice area, and highly professional staff, The Ravines Golf Club provides exceptional playing conditions at an extraordinary value.
Charter a fishing or sailing excursion and explore all that Lake Michigan has to offer.
If you are more into the athletic approach, rent a Hydrobike and pedal down the Kalamazoo River, go kayaking or paddle-boarding, have fun on a jet ski, climb the 312 steps to the top of Mt. Baldhead, or hop on a bike and ride the 12 miles to Holland.
But wait, there’s still more! Both local towns are chock-full of boutiques, art galleries, shops and even an antique mall, making it easy to find just that right gift to take back home. Let the adventures begin!
