6 of the Best Bed and Breakfasts for your Michigan wedding

Whether you plan to elope or to round up family and friends for a destination wedding, here are several fine B&Bs for your Michigan wedding — each listed with convenient, direct links to useful information.

If you live in Michigan and want to take your nuptials on the road, why go anywhere else but Michigan? If you live elsewhere, three major interstate highways and more than a dozen airports serve the Upper and Lower Peninsulas.

Advantages of holding your Michigan wedding at a bed and breakfast, such as the Huron House (above photo), which specializes in elopements:

  • Personalized service from the moment you get in touch. At most B&Bs, you’ll deal directly with the owner.
  • Innkeepers intimately know the spaces and logistical details of their facilities and the area. They know you want the wedding your way and will readily be able to answer questions and help you realize your vision.
  • For services such as food and beverage, B&Bs offer more flexibility than the take-ours-or-go-elsewhere policies at hotels. Most innkeepers have a list of local suppliers whose quality of service is proven.
  • When a wedding party books all the rooms, you’ll have exclusive access to the grounds and common areas, allowing for morning yoga or late-night ruminations in front of the fire. (Inquire in advance about the degree of access for wedding guests not staying on the property. For everyone’s safety and security, policies are probably in place.)

Jake and Audra spoke their vows in this rustic-chic setting at Goldberry Woods.

Goldberry Woods, Union Pier

This large property has at least two ideal locations for a wedding: inside a modern white Farmhouse-style barn or amid a magnificent stand of pines, as seen above. Or, if you want to hold your elopement or vows renewal against the backdrop of the chicken coop or swimming pool or while kayaking down the Galien River, it could probably be arranged because these innkeepers want to make your two-night getaway fun as well as stress-free. Read more. They also offer small, customizable weddings for up to 75, with everyone staying in the B&B rooms or cottages.

Eloping? Arrive with your marriage license and rings, and the event planner at this grand, restored inn will take care of all the other details of an elopement package for two, a two-hour afternoon or evening event held indoors or in the gardens under a pergola. Staying a night or two is optional but don’t decide until after you see the seven romantic rooms. Also offered: a well-thought-out Intimate Wedding Package, a three-hour event for up to 14. Sunday through Thursday ceremonies cost less.

Huron House, Oscoda

Long known as a romantic destination, this B&B on Lake Huron lacks event space and the owners didn’t want loud wedding parties intruding on the peace and privacy of other guests anyway. But Huron House has found a niche in elopements and “micro” weddings. It offers elegant elopement packages for just the two of you or for the bridal couple and four friends or family members. Or, between October and May, you can rent the entire inn for two nights for up to 28 people, including the bridal couple, and hold an intimate and memorable wedding. Read more.

Bridal couple at Nordic Pineapple Bed and Breakfast
In a quiet neighborhood only 30 minutes north of Lansing, Nordic Pineapple Bed and Breakfast in St. Johns offers spacious grounds and multiple backdrops for a memorable wedding.

Nordic Pineapple Bed and Breakfast, St. Johns

Early in their stewardship of this beautiful historic home, Nordic Pineapple B&B owners Kjersten and Greg decided that smaller indoor or outdoor weddings — up to 32 persons — were just right for their property. All wedding packages include lodging for two nights in all seven guest rooms, which can accommodate up to 19 persons. The bride and groom are given the flexibility to provide their own decorations and food and beverage service. A rehearsal dinner can be added on.
